do not take cash for your safety and ours. Due to our later hours, we have
decided that it would be safer for the staff and our clients to not have cash
on them. While AYCMARC is in safe area, we believe that it is better to error
on the side of caution than presumption. Caution here is protecting our clients
and our staff from any potential unforeseen safety problems that may occur when
carrying cash late at night.
What forms of payment do you accept?
will take personal and other forms of checks, money orders, all major credit
cards, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Do you accept insurance?
Why do you not accept insurance?
AYCMARC we have mixed feelings about taking insurance. We understand that
insurance makes what you pay out of pocket minimum. However, there are hidden
disadvantages to using insurance for mental health related problems. To bill your insurance I, must give you a
diagnosis, this is true even if you use your insurance for couples and family
counseling. I must give the primary insurance holder a diagnosis. This
diagnosis may stay with you for life and can prevent you from getting jobs, life
and health insurance or drive your premiums up along with possible unforeseen
social, and legal consequences. This is true even if I give you the least
stigmatizing diagnosis possible. In
short staff at AYCMARC or any other counseling practice and/or organization
cannot guarantee confidentiality and that your diagnosis will not fall into the
wrong hands when using insurance. However, AYCMARC can do everything in our
power to make sure that your diagnosis and other confidential information does
not fall into the wrong hands. At AYCMARC we believe that your confidentiality
outweighs the benefit of using insurance.
What if I cannot afford counseling?
If you still would like to use your insurance we can file a super bill on your behalf. A super bill is when you pay for services up front and then the staff at AYCMARC will help you fill out the papers to be reimbursed by your insurance provider. However, be aware we will need to submit a diagnosis and there is no guarantee that the insurance provider will reimburse you. It is strongly encouraged that you talk to your insurance company to find out the requirements for this option.

What is a diagnosis?
AYCMARC our philosophy about a diagnosis is that it is a short hand for people
in the mental health services to communicate with other professionals. A diagnosis
simply means that a client meets a cluster of symptom that make up the
disorder. Instead of having to list all these symptoms out we can simply say
that the client has Bi-Polar 1 Disorder. This is much easier than listing all
the symptoms the client demonstrates when writing a report, during supervision with
staff or when consulting and conceptualizing a case. AYCMARC also believes that
a diagnosis is also for treatment purposes only. A diagnosis gives the mental
health professional an idea what interventions are likely to work and not
likely to work. Insurance companies however, taken this idea of diagnosis to
stigmatize clients and to make judgements to weather if a client is mentally
sick enough for them to pay for treatment. This in turn has cheapened the
concept of a diagnosis, the concept of mental health and encourages borderline
insurance fraud. AYCMARC does not want to be part of this ethical dilemma.
Does AYCMARC provide diagnoses?
we do diagnose, however, this is only when a client truly meets the criteria
for a diagnosis. All diagnosis is kept confidential except if AYCMARC is court
ordered must legally break confidentiality. All diagnosis at AYCMARC is used
only for treatment purposes and only given when a client truly meets criteria
for the diagnosis.
Do you have to have a diagnoseable disorder to benefit from counseling?
At AYCMARC we believe that people without a diagnoseable disorder can benefit from counseling. We believe that many people who do not meet the criteria for a diagnoseable disorder seek out and need counseling. We know some people are just stuck in life and having problems with their relationship. We realize some people need guidance in dealing with stress, want to change career or just better him/herself. None of these reasons are pathological and warrants a diagnosis or anyone else needs to know about. Thus, counseling is for anyone who wants it.
